🎶✨ The Garcia Project – 2025 Days Between Tour ✨🎶Celebrating 15 Years of Keeping the Spirit Alive

This summer, The Garcia Project invites you on a musical journey through time with our 2025 Days Between Tour. We’re honoring 15 years of heartfelt devotion to preserving and performing the music of the Jerry Garcia Band — and this year’s tour is shaping up to be one of the most meaningful yet.

🕰️ We are the Jerry Garcia Band Time Machine — and our passion is delivering the authentic live JGB experience, with the same arrangements, tempos, grooves, and soul that Jerry and his band brought to life from 1976 through 1995. Every note we play is in service to that spirit.

🌟 TWO nights at The Katherine Hepburn Theater (“The Kate”) – July 29 & 30
Kicking off the tour: Join us in Old Saybrook, CT at this gorgeous, intimate venue for two completely unique and unforgettable nights. Each night will spotlight a different era of the Jerry Garcia Band, with an authentic setlist from that time — lovingly recreated with the passion and precision that The Garcia Project is known for. Whether you’re drawn to the late-‘70s soul or the early ‘90s power and polish, you’ll be transported. And you will receive a commemorative 12×18 art poster if you come both nights!

August 1, 2022 would have been Jerry Garcia’s 80th birthday. August 9, 2022 is the date that marks Jerry’s passing, 27 years ago. August 1 – August 9 is what we, Jerry’s fans, refer to as “The Days Between”.

For more than the last decade, The Garcia Project has celebrated the life and musical legacy of Jerry Garcia by performing full, classic Jerry Garcia Band set lists. Starting July 29, The Garcia Project will embark on a multi-state tour, taking the band and fans to Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, and Vermont.

Praised by Dennis McNally (Publicist for The Grateful Dead), the press, and fans, The Garcia Project has been recreating classic Jerry Garcia Band set lists with stunning accuracy and detail across the country for the past 12 years.

“I spent a lot of nights in a lot of places with the Jerry Garcia Band, and I’m here to say that I really enjoy what The Garcia Project does with those memories.  Mik’s guitar and his and Kat’s vocals stir up some very sweet vibes…some times they almost make me feel like I’m back in, say, 1992 at the Warfield.  Check ‘em out.” — Dennis McNally, former publicist for the Jerry Garcia Band

“With faithful arrangements and period-correct gear and a dynamic ensemble use of conversational dixieland-style improvisation, space, and crescendo and diminuendo, the Project brought the Electric Church treatment to an exceptional show originally played by Garcia’s band in Santa Barbara on February 5, 1977.  Kat’s vocals on “Stir It Up,” Dan’s loping bass solo on “Simple Twist of Fate,” Smiley’s keyboards, and Mik’s graceful channeling of the singing and playing of Garcia lifted up a roomful of new believers. Highly recommended. “ — MusicFest News

“For those of us who crave late 70’s (and through the 80’s and 90’s) Jerry Garcia Band, The Garcia Project scratches that itch for hearing live renditions of JGB shows from that period.” — Bob Minkin, legendary Grateful Dead and Jerry Band rock photographer

“The Garcia Project was on point with the whole experience and it didn’t seem like a cover band more like a mirrored band…they are just as real as the Jerry Garcia Band. “ – Buffalo FM Review

“The Garcia Project’s attention to detail on intonation and performance structure does set them apart as an authority on Jerry Garcia.” – NYSMUSIC

“If you close your eyes, you’ll swear you are at a Jerry Garcia Band show.”
– ecoLocal Magazine

“It was hard to tell that it wasn’t Jerry signing on “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” – NYSMUSIC

“In order for a tribute band to be successful, fans need to look at them as the authority on the artist they are emulating. The Garcia Project pulls it off effortlessly. Go see them live …The Garcia Project is the whole package.” – Upstate Live

And this celebratory Jerry Garcia birthday show – which falls on what would have been Garcia’s 77th birthday – will also include a StraxArt gallery of the guitarist’s artwork, with a special “Augmented Reality” feature.

There will be official prints for sale, and several works on display that “never before seen by the public.”

“In sharing his artwork, I get to share what his mind was like off of the stage; the kind of things he’d like to do to keep his hands busy,” Trixie Garcia, said of her father’s artwork. “I feel like artwork kept his mind challenged and stimulated.”

— Bob Minkin, legendary Grateful Dead and Jerry Band rock photographer

“I first met Jerry Garcia in 1974 when he asked me to sing harmony with him on his second solo album and started recording and sitting in with The Jerry Garcia Band whenever possible. I became an official member of The Garcia Band in 1977 through 1979 recording, gigging and touring with them, and have many fond memories of that unique experience! Recently, I was asked to sit in with a wonderful band called The Garcia Project, who lovingly and reverently recreate different specific sets of the Garcia Band in their hayday.

They don’t merely recreate Jerry’s music, as far as I’m concerned, they are channeling it. Performing with them, I am moved and touched by how much the music moves the audience into a state of joyous community and rapture. The Garcia Project brings us all back to that special time and I’m excited and blessed to participate in giving new and old audiences alike, the chance to relive the Spirit & Magic of the Jerry Garcia Band.”

Mik Bondy’s Scarlet Fire Tiger 007 – First Look

Leo Elliot of Scarlet Fire Guitars in Dallas Texas was hired in 2016 to build the closest replica of Jerry Garcia’s iconic Doug Irwin guitar, called Tiger for me (Mik Bondy, guitarist of The Garcia Project) as a gift from a loyal fan. Kat and I drove to Dallas in 2016 to get measurements of my hands, and to choose a neck and talk about electronics and frets and tone with Leo.

The tiger was delivered to me on 7-22-17, at a friend’s house in MA. Here is some information on the build:

• Mexican cocobolo
• set-neck configuration
• inlaid and outlined w/ 1/16th inch brass
• Tiger inlaid on an ebony oval, accented with brass
• Neck is curly maple, accented by a vermillion center stripe and accented with thin layers of vermillion and maple
• Gabon ebony fretboard is inlaid with the classic Tiger motif
• Rear of the guitar is a brass outlined, quilted maple and cocobolo oval -The maple oval has a 1/16th inch red, yellow and blue marquetry strip around its circumference. The cocobolo oval is inlaid with an art deco style flower of two types of abalone, MOP, and brass.
• Electronics cover is cut out of the same piece of cocobolo as the back and is outlined with brass.
• Pots are NOS military surplus. The volume pot is a 25k value with a logarithmic taper and the neck and bridge tone are controlled by a custom manufactured, 250k/500k value Allen Bradley style, dual Mod pot just like the original. The other tone pot is a 500k value linear taper.
• onboard effects loop (OBEL) that allows the output signal from the pickups to be sent to an effects chain and return to the instrument before the volume pot. This was a personal invention of Jerry’s that allowed his signal to remain consistent when using the master volume and it allowed certain FX, like the Mutron III to always see a full input signal no matter what the master vol. on the guitar was set on.
• Unity gain buffer circuit made by wald-electronics.com.
• DiMarzio single-coil pick-up in the neck and two DiMarzio superdistortion humbuckers for the middle and bridge. I cut a one-piece cocobolo surround to mount the single coil, neck pickup in to the humbucker sized hole on the triple ring.
• Kluson reproduction harmonica bridge
• Gold Schaller M6 tuners

Here is Mik Bondy performing on the “Scarlet>Fire Tiger” for the first time on Jerry Garcia’s 75th Birthday Celebration, Presented by The Jerry Garcia Family:

Here is the “unboxing” video:

The Tiger needed a battery, so I put one in and tuned it up. I had a small fender travel amp to try it with. Take a listen to the first song played on Tiger here:

I am looking forward to plugging Tiger into my rig. My current rig is a modded 1967 Fender blackface twin for my pre-amp, a modded 2100 Mcintosh solid state amplifier for my power, two well used JBL e-120 speakers in a handmade Hard Trucker style cabinet, and effects rack with a MuTron, Boss Octive, Boss Delay with tap tempo, MXR Phaser with rate foot pedal mod, Boss Turbo Overdrive, Tubscreamer, Boss OD-1, rack tuner and ground control loop and pedal board. The rig was built and designed by myself over the course of three years.

Here are some photos of Tiger. If you want to hear Tiger through my rig, come on out to a show! The first public show that I will be playing Tiger at is the Jerry Garcia Family official 75th Birthday Celebration on August 1, 2017 at The Brooklyn Bowl. [GET TICKETS HERE]  The Garcia Project will perform a full Jerry Garcia Band show and Andy Falco and friends will perform selections from The Pizza Tapes and more!
